Can I still close on my new house during COVID-19 and social distancing?
Yes, you definitely can close as I worked with both buyers and sellers during this tumultuous time. It just takes more communication between all parties and an understanding from everyone involved.
Many title companies are still working and are able to provide the documentation you need to close, however, if you represent the seller you need to try to provide the buyer or their counsel with as many documents as possible as many government functions and private section functions are shut down.
Moreover, buyer’s counsel needs to make sure how a home inspection can be done during this time and what possible items can be fixed with limited resources available to the seller.
As for the actual closing, New Jersey is looking into allowing Zoom to allow for remove notarizing and signing, but until then many title companies are limiting the closing to only the buyer’s attorney and the buyer and having all individuals provide their own pens and doing whatever they need to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
There is no need to cancel your home purchase during this time so contact the Law Offices of Chirag D. Mehta, LLC at 201-688-0667 or via email at Chirag@mycdmlaw.com to discuss how we can help you safely and remotely close your home purchase.
